I grew up

In the small town I came from, jewellery was something you waited for. It wasn’t about choice or self-expression. It was about tradition. Jewellery was gifted, not chosen. It carried rules and permissions, often decided by parents, in-laws, or occasions deemed worthy. As a young girl, I remember looking at pieces locked away in cupboards or safes - worn only for weddings or ceremonies. They felt less like joy and more like inheritance.
When I stepped into larger cities, into new worlds of work and society, I saw a different reality. Diamonds weren’t just adornments; they were signals. At weddings, at dinner parties, at high-society gatherings, they marked who belonged. And when you didn’t have them - or had the “wrong kind” - you felt it. There was an unspoken hierarchy. And for a long time, I stood outside of it.
My first engagement ring was a cluster of small stones. It was beautiful, meaningful, but it also came with that same feeling of waiting - of being given something rather than choosing it myself. Years later, when I finally
bought myself
a solitaire, the experience was entirely different. It wasn’t about the size of the stone. It was about the

. For the first time, I wasn’t waiting for approval, or for permission. I wasn’t being gifted jewellery as a symbol of someone else’s love or decision. I was buying a piece that spoke to me, simply because I wanted it.
That moment was transformative

And it made me realise something important: I wasn’t alone.
Over the years, I’ve met countless women - smart, ambitious, self-made - who had achieved so much in their own right. They had built companies, created families, carved out independent lives. And yet, when it came to jewellery, they often hesitated. Not because they didn’t desire it, but because the jewellery world rarely felt designed for them.
